Speaking Engagements

Book J. Alexander Greenwood for keynotes, panels, podcasts, and live conversations.

Speaking & Media FAQ

What kinds of speaking engagements do you do?
I speak at conferences, book clubs, writing groups, professional associations, universities, and private organizations. Formats include keynotes, panels, workshops, classroom talks, and moderated conversations. I also do virtual events when that makes sense for the audience.

What topics do you typically cover?
My talks draw from real-world experience as a writer, communicator, and podcaster. Common topics include:

  • Radical Competency and workplace dynamics

  • Independent publishing and author entrepreneurship

  • Podcasting strategy, ethics, and storytelling

  • Public relations and crisis communication

  • Writing craft and the creative process

  • Building a sustainable creative career

  • True crime and the ethics of storytelling

I’m also happy to tailor a talk to your audience or event goals.

Are you available for podcasts, radio, TV, or interviews?
Yes. I regularly appear as a guest on podcasts, radio, television, and in print and online interviews. I’m comfortable with live and recorded formats and come prepared to contribute thoughtfully to the conversation.

Do you charge for speaking engagements?
For most speaking engagements, I request an honorarium. For events outside the Kansas City region, this may also include a speaker fee to cover travel and related expenses. News media appearances, such as radio, television, and podcast interviews, are generally not subject to a speaking fee.

Do you speak outside the Kansas City area or internationally?
Yes. I speak both nationally and internationally, in person and virtually. I’ve presented at events in India, Curaçao, and Great Britain, and I’m comfortable working with international audiences and time zones. Virtual engagements are also an option when appropriate.

Do you customize talks or appearances?
Absolutely. I prefer to understand your audience, format, and goals in advance so the session feels relevant and grounded rather than generic.

How far in advance should I reach out?
Earlier is better, especially for conferences or multi-day events, but I’m always happy to explore opportunities when schedules allow.

How do I book you for an event or appearance?
Click here with a brief overview of your request, including your audience, preferred format (keynote, panel, podcast, interview, etc.), timing, and location. I’ll follow up to see if it’s a good fit and discuss next steps.

“J. Alex Greenwood’s presentation on how to be seen and heard as a writer today was full of valuable information. As a newer writer working toward finding an editor and publisher, I realize the importance of creating an online presence but have been unsure of the best way for me. I currently use AI for research and bouncing ideas around, but Alex gave us a plethora of new ways to use AI for better, more targeted results, and for using other technologies that may increase our presence beyond our writing. His presentation was very beneficial to me.”

AI as a Tool

“I enjoyed Alex Greenwood’s presentation to my writing group, Central Valley Fiction Writers. Not only is he easy to listen to and understand the topic he speaks about, but it opened my eyes to a subject I wasn’t open to before...AI. Alex explained that AI can be used as a tool for finding typos in your manuscript. Boy, do I need that. Funny how we authors read what we think we wrote, and not what we actually typed on the page when proofreading. So, I am anxious to try this AI tool on the novel in progress. Thanks, Alex.”

“Before hearing Alex Greenwood’s presentation on artificial intelligence, I had never used AI for anything but fantasy artwork. Now I see it as a tool to supplement (but not replace) my writing. His presentation was open, friendly, warm, and informative. I hope we can have him back and look forward to the experience.
